School Report Card Info

 February, 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We provide regular updates to you about your student’s individual academic progress by sending home a report card at the end of each grading period. Each year, we also provide you with updates about our school’s overall achievement through the North Carolina School Report Card. This school report card includes important information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, student discipline, instructional resources, and teacher quality. It also includes information about how our school performed against federal Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO) targets.

Again this year, each North Carolina public school also received a letter grade to describe its performance. These School Performance Grades reflect student achievement and student growth. Student achievement constitutes 80% of the School Performance Grade, while student growth constitutes 20% of the School Performance Grade. For some schools that meet or exceed expected growth, the growth calculation would lower their School Performance Grade. In those rare instances, growth is not included.

I have sent a printed summary of our school report card. A complete version is available online at www.ncpublicschools.org/src. The numbers appearing on the school report card only tell part of the story. At our school, we are proud of several special initiatives and activities that are underway. Each student is involved in reading group time and math group time each day and we are urging everyone to read and practice math facts every day as well.  Our reading incentive program is well underway and many are already in the hat club and the t-shirt club!

State and local education leaders are committed to providing parents with more information about schools. Well-informed parents who participate in their children’s education and school enhance the learning environment for students and educators alike. In addition, the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires schools to issue school report cards.

Your involvement at our school is very important to our success! I encourage you to review our school report card and to contact me directly to discuss any questions you may have about it. I also welcome your feedback about other interests you have in our school. As always, we appreciate the opportunity to serve your child and your ongoing support of the work underway our school!

Sincerely,

Keith Ezell, Principal
